Be Still

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
– Exodus 14:14

Do you actually believe this?

I have noticed that sometimes we are focused, even consumed, with the circumstances we are living in. That the circumstance becomes our focus, it’s all we can see, how bad things may be.

When was the last time you actually sat in stillness? When you just sat in quiet, in God’s presence.

We lead busy lives and our minds are always busy. We need to find time to actually sit, and be still.

Shift your focus up, fix your eyes on Jesus, not your circumstances. I’m not diminishing the fact that a lot of us are in some awful circumstances, I get it!

From the outside looking in, our circumstances with Piper may seem really horrible. Piper still isn’t able to eat by mouth. The  possibility of her ever eating again, at least in the eyes of her doctors, is getting further and further away and tube feeding continues to become our ‘normal’. Our life looks like hospital trips, blending, therapy, homework, more therapy and tubie time. Her hearing loss is permanent, surgery is imminent. Yep, it really sucks. BUT amongst all of this I have learnt to continually shift my focus on Jesus, actually sit in silence, in stillness and know that He is fighting for me. I’m really enjoying this journey and this life. It’s possible you know!

We all have bad days, but when you learn to live in a place of daily stillness, and fully believe that God is in the battle, you can actually live; despite whatever circumstances you are in, about to face or continue to face.

We have been through a lot this year so far, I have had moments where I have just wept, and wept, because it’s hard. Things just haven’t gone how I wanted them to in lots of different areas in my life.

I have learnt it’s a choice, what we focus on. I had to learn to shift my focus on all the good things around me, on the loving Father, and actually trusting Him. Even though it’s a daily commitment to declare these things… I AM JOYFUL. We can look at our circumstances and think “how sad” or… We can utter my two favourite words “BUT God”, who’s plans are far greater, can allow us to live joyful and thankful, and who gives us the strength to endure what may seem like the impossible.

What we focus on, gets bigger. When you focus on eating healthy, then it only gets bigger. (I really need to do this – and stop eating cake ha! ) If you focus on all the negative things, they only get bigger. If you focus on reading, your reading gets better. If you focus on how bad things are, they only seem harder. You get the picture. What are you focusing on?

This is a loving reminder, God is FOR YOU, not against you. He is FIGHTING FOR YOU. Be still, and know, that the Lord is in control. Declare your trust for Him. Don’t miss out on the joy that’s rightfully yours. Don’t let the enemy rob that from you.

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
– Romans 15:13
